An unlikely story that throws people of different races and ages together. This is the tale of April (Katie Holmes) as a difficult and distant daughter living with her boyfriend Bobby (Derek Luke) miles away from her parents in NYC. When she learns that her mother (Patricia Clarkson) is ill, she wants to make amends by preparing the best Thanksgiving dinner they’ve ever had. But when her oven breaks, she has no choice but to pound the staircase and doors of her eclectic apartment neighbors in hopes of borrowing their oven to cook her turkey. The story jumps from April’s experiences prepping the meal to the travels of her mom and dad (Oliver Platt) in a car full of siblings and a grandma with Alzheimer’s. Lots of movies attempt to do the amusing home-for-the-holidays thing, but none has ever achieved the desperate desire for family unit — the determination for the perfect damn holiday dinner as this. Though it’s an amusing tale, there won’t be a dry eye in the house when the credits roll.
