During Avengers: Infinity War one of the many questions that got asked were, “Where was Ant-Man?” A quick throw away line revealed he had made a deal with the government and we now know part of that deal was for Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) to be under house arrest for two years sans costume. Now with only a few days to go before he gets his ankle bracelet removed Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and his daughter Hope (Evangeline Lilly) come to him to help them with a very important and personal mission. Scott learns that Hope has now become the Wasp and a new villain known as Ghost may jeopardize everything.

While the first Ant-Man movie was funny and entertaining, it also had the lamest super villain to be featured in the now 20 Marvel movies. Perhaps the superhero does not have the library of super villains as the other heroes have because once again we are presented with a weak “bad guy.” The movie is still very funny thanks largely to the performances of Rudd and Michael Peña and still entertaining, but the series still lacks a worthy adversary.

It may be hard to believe, or maybe not, but it took Marvel twenty movies before they got a female hero’s name into one of their titles. At the end of the last movie it was teased Hope’s character would become the new Wasp to which she replied, “It’s about damn time.” She does have to share the headline, but Lilly proves to be one bad ass hero in this movie. She has always been a strong actress going back to her Lost TV days and is now a proud addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Maybe the studio is finally taking the hint. After finding remarkable success earlier this year with Black Panther, Oscar winner Brei Larson will headline as Ms. Marvel in early 2019.

There is a 3D offering if you like seeing movies in that format. The conversion is done decently, but it sometimes can distract from the action scenes. There is a solid emotional core to the story as well, which is often missing from these movies.  This is the last offering from Marvel in 2018, but there is plenty to look forward to in 2019.
