Something old, something new, something borrowed (a best friend’s husband-to-be) and something blue, in this love triangle rom-com about childhood best friends Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Darcy (Kate Hudson). It’s always been the two “girlfriends against the world,” the “sister they never had,” and “she’s always there” until now that is, when Darcy is about to marry Dex (Colin Eglesfield.) But when Dex and Rachel reminisce about how they were study partners back in college, how they’re attracted to each other now, and how they’re headed for trouble, emotions run high, a one stand ensues and now it’s complicated. To add to the elephant-in-the-room there’s Ethan (John Krasinski) who’s not afraid to spill the truth. Ordinarily any comedy with Kate Hudson is not my cup of tea – usually a retread of some annoying, previous movie she’s done – but in this, Hudson really struts her stuff as the loud-mouth best friend. But this is Goodwin’s movie and anyone who’s ever watched “Big Love” knows she was destined to be a star. Demure, disarming, girl-next-door with Snow White features, Goodwin is going to be this generations Meg Ryan. The movie holds its plot until the very twist and turn at the unexpected end, but its only flaw is one gaping hole….if the two – Rachel and Dex – had a nine month crush on each other back in college, why didn’t somebody just speak up then? Or would that mean then we wouldn’t have this movie. Three tiaras
