It’s been 15 years since the original and this one starts out like a Mission Impossible or a ‘Bourne’ film..a masked man running through the streets chased down by a motorcycle.  Just before he’s shot to death and upon revealing himself….we learn it’s Justin Bieber.  As Justin Beiber.

Enter Valentina (Penelope Cruz) who is fashion police for Interpol…determined to find the killer behind all these pop stars, that apparently all connect to Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller).  And that’s because just before they  die – they do the infamous and pouting the lemon-sucked ‘blue steel’ look. Posting it on Instagram.

Zoolander has been living as a recluse (since 2001) since his wife was crushed tragically under a building of books (that he built). On top of it, Zoolander lost his son to child services when he didn’t know how to boil the pasta.

Billy Zane (as Billy Zane) finds Zoolander living in a snowy mountainside in New Jersey. Zane needs to come back out to the fashion world and find his son. In Rome.

On the other side of America, living in Santa Barbara, in a harem, is Hansel (Owen Wilson) also a former rival fashion model.  Together with Zoolander, the two will show the runways what they’ve been missing. Or not.

The plot carries on, but it’s too crazy to dissect. Better to see it first hand as part of the movie’s shock-factor are the surprises.  A truly twisted, perverted, insane film. It’s not good and it’s not bad.  It’s just wild and hilarious.  The cameos are too numerous to mention but include….Willie Nelson, Susan Sarandon, Katie Perry…

There’s not a movie out there one can even compare it to.  It’s Austin Powers on helium and psychedelics but it’s also non-stop entertainment.  Zoolander is still…in fashion.
