Writer/director Paul Feig (Bridesmaid, The Heat) plays off Melissa McCarthy’s usual antics by casting her in the lead as Susan Cooper, a desk analyst who is the ears and eyes of a James Bond-ish spy played by Jude Law.  In return, he’s her heart and soul, and she’d do anything including take a bullet for him.

On the other end of the spectrum is Oxford educated ice-Princess Rayna (Rose Byrne) interacting with terrorists and nuclear plots.  Kooky agent named Rick (Jason Statham) plays the babbling baboon with a history of spy-attempt disasters and is here to save the day…or destroy it further.  What makes his character amusing is that we’re so accustomed to Statham being steely-cool in his Transporter films.

But when McCarthy and her office sidekick (Miranda Hart of the U.K.’s hit TV show Miranda) join forces to become field agents (fatty and tall/skinny with all the accompanying jokes) the laughs ensue to a just a certain point.

If you’re in the mood for a non-stop stupidly entertaining film, this is it, but it remains very one note/one joke throughout the entire thing and after a lot of kicking, punching, swearing, shooting and fast car driving you might think, enough is enough.  And it is.
