Judd Altman (Jason Bateman) has just discovered his wife is cheating on him…and with his boss, Wade, (Dax Shepard) no less.  And just when Bateman plays to leave her, he gets the call from his sister (Tina Fey). They’re father has died.

At the funeral, and at his mother (Jane Fonda’s) insistence the family will sit Shiva for seven days. This would be fine, except as one of the siblings, Phillip (Adam Driver), the black sheep son, points out, “Mom is not Jewish and dad was an atheist.”

Immediately hilarious and all at once poignant and painful, this bi polar film of sorts, is a balance of brilliant and disturbing, and makes for the best film of the year to date. Some of America’s most comedic talent gathers under one roof here and together work magic. Can you say ‘sequel?’  The ensemble cast includes “House of Cards” star Corey Stoll as the ‘we don’t have kids yet’ brother who can’t impregnate his wife, Alice (Kathyrn Hahn).

As we follow Chez Altman through Bateman’s bird’s eye’s view of his dysfunctional family, and even his shot at new love with the girl-next-door, Penny (Rose Byrne) we find something in all our lives to relate to here. A hugely intelligent comedy about life getting complicated, staying complicated and at the same time being wonderful. Life is about taking chances, and finding new beginnings.  Why not start today?  By seeing this film!  ♔ ♕ ♚ ♛
