Following in his “Patriot” footsteps we’ve all anticipated Heath Ledger’s next flick. Until now. Clearly designed as a teen-attracting-star-making vehicle, the soundtrack will sell big time with its “He will rock you” tag line. In this story of 14th century era, that song blasts through early scenes in noble competitions that should otherwise be taken seriously. Focusing on the medieval tournament sport of jousting Ledger jousts under an alias, masquerading from peasant to noble knight attempting to win the heart of the lovely maiden (Shannyn Sossamon). Oscar winner “L A Confidential” Brian Helgeland finds little difference in the 14th century or the 21st century with today’s rockin’ values and language like “Geoffrey Chaucer’s the name, writing’s the game” (Paul Bettany). David Bowie’s “Golden Years” had a place in renaissance England. Who knew? If “The Boys Are Back In Town” makes you wince at the thought of circa 1360, better stay at home or you’ll squirm for two hours.
