Nick (Ryan Reynolds) is a Boston do-gooder cop with his partner, Hayes (Kevin Bacon).  But when a scenario gets Reynolds killed, he lands in heaven where his new partner is a fast-talking cowboy/outlaw (circa 1800s) named Roy (Jeff Bridges.)

The new heavenly rules suggest if they want to play cops, then they have to find bad guys who have managed to escape judgment day and in order to sentence them to hell.  Sure, the plot is original but the storyline becomes a twist up of mimicking many films including 48 Hours, Ghost, Men in Black, Down to Earth and which starred Chris Rock as a man who has to inhabit a different body.  In this case, Bridges is a bimbo busty blonde and Reynolds looks the Chinese delivery guy.

But just when you might hope you’ll sink into this movie – with its unnecessary 3D – Bridges marble-mouth rambles become annoying. We can’t process the sentimetal moments, evil at Reynold’s funeral,  and much like the dead, we can’t feel anything because Bridges keeps interrupting.  With Bridges sinking the buddy-chemistry, this ain’t no Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte afterall.   ♛1/2
