When the sequel opens Frank (Bruce Willis) has traded in violence for the good life. He’s stocking up at Costco will his lover girl, Sarah (Mary Louise Parker.) But when Marvin (John Malkovich) pokes his head through Aisle 5 and declares Frank should “Stop playing house” because “you haven’t killed someone” in years, it’s all about to change. Retired, and extremely dangerous – RED – the three are off-and-running to save the world and to save themselves because apparently somebody posted something on the internet for a crime they supposedly committed in 1979. Now they have to get to the bottom of it.

The bottom, is Anthony Hopkins, but it’s Victoria (Helen Mirren) who still rules and steals the show even when Catherine Zeta Jones – as Russian counter intelligence (and “Frank’s kryptonite”) – is on the screen. The droll lovey-dovey element between Bruce Willis and Mary Louise Parker really works in a comical way and the dynamic of Malkovich giving love life advice, makes (who would have thought) all the violent moments fun. ♕ ♚ ♛
