French born Jacques Perrin famous for producing Academy Award winners and a career in acting as well, now tackles another film about nature in his follow up to “Le Peuple Singe” (monkeys) and “Microcosmos” (insects). Exploring the mystery of birds in flight through five crews of more than 450 people, including 17 pilots and 14 cinematographers who join together for a breath-taking visual of migration, through forty countries and all seven continents, ranging from the Eiffel tower to the Amazon. There are few words spoken by the director. Instead a soundtrack of swooping beats accompanies the sweeping tale along with their sometimes cries, making us understand our feathered friends, as scenes often juxtapose architectural structures against these natural dwellers leaving us with a sensation of airborne. One does not have to be a bird-lover to love this sensitive tale that balances harshness and survival with the realities of a Discovery channel informative.
