Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer star together for the first time in a suspense-filled thriller from Oscar winning Robert Zemeckis (“Forrest Gump”). A cliche’ filled, New England type tale that fails on many levels. While the lead characters are beautiful to look at, beauty is only skin deep. Initially eerie and tense, it eventually fails as the film sabotages itself through undeveloped characters, attempted fright gags we’ve seen since the days of “Amityville Horror” used over and over again. And, the plot of husband-had-an-affair-
with-a-woman-who-killed-herself-and-has-come-back-
from-the-dead, wrestles with the makings of a made for television movie. Ford is a Harvard professor/doctor and Pfeiffer overcoming a car accident, has put her music career on hold to indulge in her husband’s academic status. The overlong film has a redeeming quality of chemistry between two mega stars who have this time chosen roles out of their norm. The film succeeds without summer blockbuster effects to give somewhat of a supernatural chill, but, overall, Alfred Hitchcock is probably rolling in his grave
