A unique American thriller (that is the stuff Jerry Springer shows are made of), about Chris (Jamie Bell) a teenage boy who right from the get-go is running for his life. His father (Dermot Mulroney) is a hog farmer and taxidermist living in southern isolation, raising both Chris and his younger brother Tim (Devon Alan) without their mother. When ex con, Uncle Deel (Josh Lucas) shows up, their worlds are traumatically shattered. While many movies use cheap tricks to establish character, this film captures us with its specific details, albeit stomach turning, but effective, in delivering fully developed and believable people. All the while their behavior patterns deliver an emotionally driven drama that successfully explores redemption, revenge and forgiveness, keeping us glued to our seats to the final second.
