(Rated PG) Following in the flood of teen movies geared toward High School girls, Hillary Duff this time portrays Samantha, a modern-day Cinderella who lives with her evil stepmother (Jennifer Coolidge) a Botox-injected, tanning salon darkened witch. Secretly responding to a Chat Room on the Princeton University website, Duff meets her Prince (Chad Michael Murray). While the fairy godmother, the gown and a dance follow, it’s her cell phone instead of the glass slipper that she loses. This is when the tales heart and soul lesson kicks in. It’s more about what Cinderella is then what she wears. (Same formula as “Mean Girls” but not as smart and sharp). And while it may feel like Amanda Byne’s in the fairy tale “What A Girl Wants” or Julia Stiles in “The Prince of Me”, it doesn’t quite strike the mark, or in this case, the clock at the stroke of twelve.
