Every movie has a lesson. For this one it would be if you rob a bank in Germany, I can’t promise that an insane asylum is the best place to hide out. His follow-up to “Run Lola Run” writer/director Tom Tykwer tackles a bizarre tale of a young nurse, Sissi (Franka Potente) who lives and works in a nuthouse. One day she’s hit by a bus and has an unlikely meeting (I won’t ruin the squirm-in-your-seat-details) with an angry man Bodo (Benno Fuermann) who saves her life. Thus begins the love story like no other love story you’ve ever seen. Sissi is a rare combination of charming and pathetic as she stumbles almost accidentally on purpose into one abusive situation after another, but the movie has far too many coincidences and surprises that come off unintended comic. Think Romeo and Juliet in a mental ward except for two characters that are supposed to grow beyond their limits, they somehow should be committed.
