If “Oceans 11” can do a remake, so can this 1969 classic in the tale of John Bridger (Donald Sutherland) a mastermind behind a gang of robbers, that include Charlie (Mark Wahlberg), Steve (Ed Norton), Lyle (Seth Green) and Handsome Rob (Jason Staham). After a heist in Venice, the gang proposes a champagne toast, when unexpectedly the plan changes and greed sets in. Enter Stella (Charlize Theron), Bridger’s daughter. What follows are some state-of-the-art chase scenes on sidewalks and through the subways in the recently redesigned Mini Cooper. While the movie tries to be “Oceans 11” it’s not, nor does it have to be. Quite the contrary, it has enough of its own surprises, comic moments (thanks to scene-stealer Seth Green) and a cast with more determination for a whole range of unfolding reasons, to leave “Oceans 11” in the undertow.
