Twelve years after the dramatic collapse of the Jim Bakker PTL Christian empire, Tammy Faye in all her mascara and glory explains what really happened to her in this documentary narrated by who else, RuPaul! Trying to be resilient and back on her feet, full of new ideas and trying to regain her place in the public’s heart, this woman of unique contradictions and style and one of the most public weepers of all time (get the make-up remover) tries to live sans scandal. Sure, it can get old fast if we simply focused on the rise and fall of somebody hideous to look at, but it’s the backstory that makes this story fascinating to watch. Chronicled by Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey, (co-directors), we weave through the back stabbing, sex, scandals and preaching gone wrong and whether television evangelists do it for profit or faith. Move over Reverend Jerry Falwell, this woman makes us want to roar!
