Roland Emmerich knows disaster films (Independence Day and Godzilla) and this one has it all – Hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and blizzards. It also has emotional wipeout to possible sensitive viewers. So be warned. It’s the story of a scientist (Ian Holmes) and his colleague (Dennis Quaid) a workaholic living with the guilt of often neglecting quality time with his son (Jake Gyllenhaal). So when his son is trapped in the New York Public Library after devastation strikes, Quaid is determined to make a wrong right, and sets out to rescue him. It’s not that this movie is good. It’s more oh – my – god; that modern technology has gotten to a point to rivet you to a theatre seat yet having a throwback feeling of those 1970 destruction films. But do audiences need another NYC based tragedy? Probably not. The upside is this isn’t 9/11 – it’s pure fiction on a big screen. But global warming is very real. After seeing this, you may be more careful with those aerosol cans and abusing those natural resources.
