Jodie Foster’s back and she’s the way we like her – tough, irresistible, and determined – “Silence of the Lambs” style. But unlike Demi Moore’s character in “Ghost” – a widow victimized by her husband’s murder, Foster plans to fight back with “Death Wish” vengeance. When her fiancée (Naveen Andrews) is murdered in Central Park, Foster goes out on a killing spree and suddenly the movie becomes a vigilante focus of right vs. wrong, justice vs. revenge and just who should be allowed to get away with murder. Enter a Detective played by Terrence Howard who represents the safety and justice of New York City. Undoubtedly they’ll become friends and suddenly an unexpected ending leaves us clapping with bring-it-on relief. Directed by “The Crying Game’s” Neil Jordan with precise emotional angles reflecting Foster’s pain, since every time she rubs her shaggy bangs out of her empty and hollowed face, we know something else is just around the corner.
