(Rated R, approx. 120)  The story of Jeanne de la Motte-Valois, an 18th century aristocrat fixated on stealing a precious necklace after leaving her adopted home to search for her true lineage. She ends up in royal intrigue while finding true love, that becomes a distraction in the throws of the French Revolution. Director Charles Shyer best known for “Father Of The Bride” tackles this lovely piece to look at on screen but we never feel focused on the characters or their needs. Where’s Helena Bonham Carter when you need her? Hillary Swank proved in her Oscar winning role that she can play a boy, but a French aristocratic la-di-da is another thing. Translation: This piece of jewelry is no gem.
