Cody Maverick (voice by Shia LeBeouf) is just your typical penguin with ambitions of being the next surfing champion like the once great Big Z (voice by Jeff Bridges) the world’s most famous-fat-surfer-dude of all time. So when Cody’s scouted by Mikey, the Sand piper bird (voice of Mario Cantone) his dream just might come true. If you can get past the fact that penguins survive in cold weather and not on the Caribbean island that their competition will take place on, you’ll be fine. Traveling from Antarctica to this tropical paradise Cody’s only competition is a Lake Michigan Chicken dude (voice by Jon Heder) who instantly bonds with him. Cody is the underdog penguin about to win us over with an amusing albeit talky script since wee ones usually prefer more action. This is one of the more intelligent kid’s movies angling at parents though its lengthy mockumentary style explanations are wasted on squirmy tikes, or anybody under age 21, who won’t get the inside humor.
