Jack Nicholson is a 63 year old bachelor who’s never dated a girl over 30. Diane Keaton is a well-adjusted, divorced woman and famous playwright. When her daughter (Amanda Peet) starts dating Jack, there’s lots of tension in the house. He promises to leave ‘when the sun comes up’ to which Keaton replies, “Doesn’t your car have headlights?” When unexpected circumstances happen, the two are stuck with each other in Keaton’s Hamptons beach house. The movie re-teams writer/director Nancy Meyers with Keaton from their last “Father Of the Bride”. Meyers has a surefire hit on her hands much as she did with “What Women Want”, but the charm of this movie lies in how complacent the two characters lives are and how surprised they can be when life throws them a curveball of love. Nicholson and Keaton have real chemistry. While Jack steals the show with his devilish King-of-the-screen behavior, he manages to step back, thus allowing Keaton to shine – making it her movie though she couldn’t have done it without him. And besides, you gotta love an older woman who’s being chased around by Keanu Reeves as the good doctor.
