After the incredible success of the first Shrek several summer ago, Dreamworks returns with the sequel of the days following Shrek (Mike Meyers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) and their wedding. When Fiona brings her “Big Fat Ogre Husband” home to meet the parents, King and Queen (John Cleese and Julie Andrews) of Far Far Away Land, it’s far from wedded bliss. They had their hopes pinned on Prince Charming as Fiona’s suitor. So the King makes an alliance with the Fairy Godmother (Jennifer Saunders) while donkey (Eddie Murphy) and his new annoying sidekick, Puss in Boots – a Zorro-esque cat (Antonio Banderas) attempt to save Shrek’s marriage. While the story line continues turning those fairy tale lifestyles upside down, this version seemed almost too sure of itself — cocky and more Hollywood then it’s sweet and naïve original. Never the less, it will be the summer boxoffice killer and best of all, delivers a lesson for all real life little girls, that you don’t need to be beautiful to be happily ever after.
