Gal (Ray Winstone) has retired from the gangster life in London, and is sunning himself like a comic Coppertone ad, placidly beside the pool at his Spanish villa when a boulder comes crashing by, barely missing him. Soon, he and his pal Aitch, (Cavin Kendall), together with their wives “Dirty” Deedee and Jackie (Amanda Redman, Julieanne White) are being threatened by a human boulder, Don Logan, a Prince of Darkness. Logan (Ben Kingsley) wants Gal for a high stakes vault break-in in London, and he will not take no for an answer. Nevertheless, that’s exactly the answer Gal keeps giving him, even as Don gets more and more threatening. Meanwhile, Gal is plagued by dreams of a menacing, hairy beast. Just how far will Don (and Gal) go in this battle of wills? Sometimes hard to decipher what these British stars are saying in a story about almost nothing. The plot is too simple. Kingsley should be commended for his part “Cape Fear” DeNiro style role in a “Pulp Fiction” Travolta-style comeback. Initially amusing and then ultimately tiring as we wish he’d just “do it” already. Not good, not bad. Just sort of indifferent.
