No, it’s not a self-help to getting married guide. This one from Oscar-winning director William “The French Connection” Friedkin is his first story since his flick flop “Jade’ in 1995.And, it’s not just another courtroom drama of which we’ve had our share. This one’s got Samuel Jackson and Tommy Lee Jones in a story based on former Secretary of the Navy, James Webb, that cuts between both a court room and a battlefield rather nicely.

Col. Terry Childers (Jackson) is a 30-year Marine Vet with combat experience in Vietnam, Beirut and Desert Storm, a patriot, a hero. But now the country he served so well has put him on trial for a rescue mission that went terribly wrong. His attorney (Jones), a comrade-in-arms, happens to owe his life to Childers who coincidentally saved him in Vietnam three decades ago.

Heated fire performances by two of our most brilliant actors that also include Anne Archer as Mrs. Mourain (wife to Ben Kingsley who plays the U.S. Ambassador) who is undoubtedly America’s most beloved and sympathetic housewife having played against every leading man from Michael Douglas in “Fatal Attraction” to Harrison Ford in “Patriot Games”. Blair Underwood as Captain Lee the second Commanding Officer under Childers, and finally, my favorite, Guy Pearce (L.A. Confidential) as Major Mark Biggs the smooth and formidable attorney prosecuting the case against Col. Childers.
