Jonathon Cross (Chris Klein) is an all-American hotshot at the fastest and most extreme sport of all time: Rollerball. Along with teammate Ridley (LL Cool J) and girlfriend Aurora (Rebecca Romijn Stamos) Jonathon lives a life of danger and speed at all times. When a bunch of Asian money-hungry game creators (who get their kicks from higher ratings) make things more dangerous by cutting a helmet chin-strap, all hell breaks lose and never stops. Whether in the rink or on the road with his hotrod corvette, thrills, constant breakneck speed and head-slamming action is what it’s about. And that’s all it’s about. A dizzy, upsetting mess of a movie that sells violence in sports with no rules and no penalties. And, every time you think the movie can’t get any worse, it does. In wake of the hockey dad being beaten to death, this is the last thing we need. Except for an R rating. If there ever was not a need for a remake, this takes the cake, the plate and the fork. The James Caan original was smart and dark. This one is dark and disturbing. Just curious if director John McTiernan (who ought to be spanked) allowed his own kids to see this?
