The story of a wanna-be who got to be the lead singer of the band he idolizes. Sort of a guy Cinderella story with great abs and long hair. Mark Wahlberg stars as Chris Cole, an office-supply salesman by day, heavy metal band member by night. The band is Steel Dragon and is run by manager and long time girlfriend (Jennifer Aniston) who realizes this Cinderella is enjoying the ball a little too much. Lots of gratuitous sex, drug use, and loud music (it’s a heavy metal band afterall). Former guitarist Zakk Wylde of Ozzy Osbourne plays a band member as well as drum playing Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin’s child) with even a cameo from Third Eye Blind singer Stephan Jenkins, as a going nowhere musician. Don’t expect a Boston accent and hip hop. This New Kid On the Block does a fresh job at performing but the movie comes off as a been there seen it plot with only a bit of a spin in the romance portion of the story.
