Call it what you want: This year’s “There’s Something About Mary”, or wanna-be “Animal House” on the road, but don’t call it the movie of the year. Unless of course you’re 16! It’s got just enough mentality to enthrall a teenager all woven into 90 minutes of gross out humor, then slap stick comedy then more gross out humor. An attempt to be a raunchy imitator of the 70’s classic “Animal House,” Josh (Breckin Meyer) plays a college-aged dude who sets out on a cross country journey from Ithaca, New York to Austin, Texas in order to intercept a mistakenly mailed, X-rated home movie sent to his girlfriend (Rachel Blanchard, TV’s “Clueless”). The video shows his infidelities in a drunken stupor with some local (“Felicity’s” Amy Smart.) Why there was a video in the first place, and further, why was it mailed to the girlfriend, is beyond me, except serving as the dumb premise. MTV’s Tom Green narrates the story about the excursion (and this ain’t no Disney trip) that includes a sperm bank, a black frat house, an exploding car, (no necessarily in that order), that is supposed to remind us why this movie is funny. Of course the cast within the movie feeds off their own college-mentality enthusiasm. If you can’t handle rude and crude, you’d best stay home.
