It’s doubtful you’ll ever hear the words “Mr. Rogen, Mr. Merchant and Mr. Ivory would like you back on set.” That’s because Rogen has coasted from one man-child flick to another and made a lateral, albeit successful career, in doing so. In other words if our “Superbad” star never graduated college, kept smoking pot and screwing off, he’d land straight in  “Pineapple Express.”  Another buddy comedy following in a long line of these films that began in the Cheech and Chong days, through Bill and Ted’s Adventures, and finally the Farrelly brothers of the 90s, this movie’s title comes from a new/odd type of weed that Rogen’s dealer, Saul Silver (James France) sells him. It’s so rare ‘it’s almost a shame to smoke it.’ The absurb scenes, the laugh-out-loud car chase involving a police cruiser, and the ongoing Rogen antics of which have placed him on the map as a lead comedian, add up to another August smash-hit for Judd Apatow, the continuous reigning king of raunchy post-adolescent nonsense. Three tiaras, one joint – not necessary to enjoy the movie – and rated R for absolutely no kids.
