There seems to be a new genre in Mall Cop movies except when it comes to this one, I don’t know that you’d actually want to call Security.  Like any typical mall, this shopping arena is filled with moms and baby carriages, obese couples, shoplifters, trailer trash and Ronnie Barnhardt (Seth Rogen).  Watching everything carefully including the perfume counter girl Brandi (Anna Faris) Rogen takes his job a little too seriously – he’s “Head of Security”- not a mall cop, so get it straight.  One day a pervert begins exposing himself to Brandi leaving Rogen certain that he’ll murder her. But when Detective Harrison (Ray Liota) edges Rogen out of the case, Rogen springs into action by attempting to join the police force.  What makes these Seth Rogen-ish comedies work is when the character takes himself so seriously it becomes funny to the audience.  That said, in this case, the movie stretches to a place that never quite comes together. Trying to find a tone – is it a comedy or a drama? – it leaves you wondering what you are supposed to be feeling. At times it gets pretty dark, yet somehow it actually and miraculously gels.
