When it comes to a sequel, one would expect it to be worse, at least lame, or plain washed up. This one was destined to be full of unnecessary stunts, special effects and just plain over the top. Over the top it was alright, way over the top of pure, comical genius! And, this from someone who went in hating the movie before it started! From its upbeat opening right through its funny credits, there isn’t a moment to breathe from laughter, as we follow lovable Sherman “Chunkybutt” Klump the brilliant professor (Eddie Murphy), on his quest to find the fountain of youth, win the girl (Janet Jackson) and rid himself of Buddy (also Eddie Murphy), his alter ego, who unexpectedly resurfaces. There’s times in our lives we’d all like to say what we feel (think Jim Carrey’s “Liar Liar”) and the way this story delivers such out loud thoughts with raunchy elements makes one say “Farrelly brothers who?”. Move over “Me, Myself and Irene,” this is the summer comedy. Move over “Xmen” because there’s a funnier, more original “mutation theory.” Murphy is pure acting brilliance coupled with special effects as he pulls off not one, not two, but eight characters in the Klump family. Grandma is back as the hilarious, horny head of this one to many happy meal household that’s short a few french fries, each with their own backstory and ongoing subplot that weaves smoothly through Professor Klump’s DNA dilemmas. Professor Klump and his nemesis Buddy may be trying to steal a lot of formulas in this movie, but there’s only one formula that this story spells out: success.
