Clint Eastwood directs this thriller about three childhood friends (Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon) who grow up and remain in their same hometown of South Boston. When Penn’s daughter is brutally murdered, policeman Bacon is assigned to the case with Robbins, as the main suspect. As with all Eastwood movies, women play an unexpected and important role, thus being the case with Laura Linney (Penn’s wife) and Marcia Gay Harden (Robbin’s wife). Eastwood allows the three male actors to act out their full potential which will guarantee a destined nomination as Best Actor for Penn and Best Supporting Actors for the others. Academy Award winning screenwriter Brian “L A Confidential” Helgeland, again works his magic with weaving the hatching of friendships, loyalties and then betrayals and twists. This Oscar worthy movie could easily make Eastwood’s day.
