and have the stamina to make it through an 89 minute movie about the exhausting task of dot.com dating. The sexy Diane Lane again suffers the woes of being dumped, divorced (remember “Under the Tuscan Sun”) – not interested in potential beaus that her family, namely her sister (Elizabeth Perkins) and dad (Christopher Plummer) intervene in matching her up with. Enter Dermot Mulroney known for his cad roles, as the parent of one of her Lane’s pre-school students. She teaches. With an obvious chemistry between the two, it’s hard to root for John Cusack, her intended lover, according to the film’s trailer. Directed/written by Gary David Goldberg best known for TVs “Family Ties” makes an earnest attempt, yet the story fails on many levels. Namely Lane is too smoldering and almost icy to be a comic actress. “Tuscan Sun” worked because she wanted to discover Italy and was more of a romantic dramedy. That said, Plummer is charming as her widowed dad who tells her his needs do not parallel hers, because he lost the love of his life (her mother) and doesn’t want another. Stockard Channing, by the way, is well cast as his trailer park girlfriend. So while you must love dogs, in the end, the title really means it – we want her with Mulroney, not Cusack.
