Sandra (Miss Congeniality) Bullock does a similar role minus the humor as a homicide detective Cassie Mayweather, a crime scene specialist on the trail of two high school students who believe they have committed a crime and can elude to law at will. She’s a pretty straight cop despite some men issues and a nickname of “hyena”. But the movie isn’t about Bullock. Instead it’s carried by the two teens Ryan Gosling and “Dawson’s Creek’s” Michael Pitt who are intriguing, believable and unbelievable at the same time in plotting murder, because they can and because they feel entitled. Yes, entitled. A real thrill kill from director Barbet Schroeder (“Single White Female” and “Desperate Measures”) so he knows his stuff.
