You may want to check under your husband’s tool shed or inside your wife’s microwave, after this story about a wife (Anjelina Jolie) who’s a curtain-hanging-housewife by day, to her husband (Brad Pitt) an engineer. By night, they’re two top assassins on such a secret mission, that they don’t even know they’re married to each other, until the ultimate assignment – kill your spouse. Just another typical day in a domestic neighborhood, I guess. Of course Pitt weighs more, has manly muscles and is about six inches taller than his competitor. But let’s not forget, Jolie is Lara Craft Tombraider. And could they be anymore beautiful to look at on screen? Competitive right from the start, Mrs. Smith matches Mr. Smith’s every move. But the problem is their marriage, which starts out cute and gets annoying and far-fetched, fast. The story is nothing but superficial fluff, since it’s hard to care about people who barely care for themselves, let alone value life. Director Doug Liman continues on a hot track, combining his action-cool skills from “Bourne Identity” with his classic quirkiness of “Swingers”. But even in this attempt at the battle of the sexes, the screen proves that a pretty face can’t carry a movie, despite some hot ‘makeup sex’ following a romp of fists, guns and explosives. I just hope that Pitt, Mr. Jennifer Aniston, has more real life “staying power’ than his movie premise.
